PO is a Junior Management level position and dynamic young graduates are recruited directly for this position through the exam. The opportunities available for POs include working in Personal banking, Rural Banking, Credit, Forex, Treasury etc. These are challenging assignments and give POs opportunity to be directly involved nation building activities.
SBI appoints new candidates for different posts in the bank every year. There are a huge number of applicants who apply for jobs as clerk, PO, SO. The bank invites intelligent candidates via SBI Recruitment 2016-17 Notification for Clerical Staff, PO, SO and other Officer Grade Vacancies. The interested candidates need to get updated regularly for all the Recruitment related Notifications for the forthcoming positions.

There are 7000 available vacancies in clerical and PO category. Out of which 2000 posts are for clerk grade and 5000 for PO category. Interested people will have to apply online for SBI PO Recruitment 2016 from the official website: www.sbi.co.in.

Q.1 What is the SBI PO/Clerk exam used for?

Ans: This exam is for Clerks and Probationary Officers which at the junior management level serve as the direct entry point for young and dynamic graduates. A probationary officer besides getting experience of challenging assignments also gets involved in the national developmental activities like working in personal banking, rural banking, forex, and treasury and credit operations.

It is very important to clarify that PO and clerk are two different posts with a variation in their exam pattern, job responsibilities and salary.

A clerk is an employee present in all departments and who is responsible for conducting routine office tasks like maintaining record files, staffing service counters, screening specialists etc. For appointment in the clerical cadre, it is important to pass the levels of clerical grade exam. The Clerk (Also called Assistant) enjoys all the monetary benefits allowed by the government like job security, low interest loans, allowances and pension after retirement. He is trained on the job and learns the work from his seniors in various fields like Banking, Finance, Management or any other area.

A Probationary Officer (PO) is a grade higher than the Clerk. A PO is a trainee of the Junior Management grade who can also rise up to higher grades of the bank. His job is similar to that of a Management Trainee position and his role involves key skills like decision making, leadership qualities and situation handling. He does managerial work unlike a clerk and is appointed at a 2 years training period as an assistant manager and does work of cash and payment handling, report making and is also responsible for binging business.
